It seems that Prince Harry will not be returning to Afghanistan. Reports claimed that Taliban infiltration of the Afghan Police force would make it impossible to keep Prince Harry’s presence a secret and that could put him and comrades in danger.
One Military source told News of the World, He said: “Getting Harry back on the front line is certainly not a priority right now. The situation there is extremely volatile and an operation involving the third in line to the throne would require a lot of planning and secrecy.”
Another high-ranking Whitehall source said: “The negatives of his redeployment far outway the positives. It is not on the agenda.”
Prince Harry, a lieutenant in the Blues and Royals, is currently taking military helicopter training. In 2007, he spent ten weeks as a forward air controller directing jets dropping bombs on Taliban positions in Helmand province.
An MoD spokesman said that it could not comment on whether the Prince would or would not return. However, any decision would not be based on issues such as the infiltration of the Afghan police force.
He said: “To put the two things together is wrong.”
